Caution!
-The use of the appliance must be justified by impossibility of defense from an assault by other means.
-Applying to people more than 3 sec. continuously is prohibited.
-Applying to persons under 16 years old, pregnant women and people with obvious mental diseases is prohibited.
Electro-shocking device “Konvoy”(lower ESD “Konvoy”) - civil self-defense weapon, intended for:
- Individual defense from attacks of animals and offenders by means of non-mortal influence on the attacker by a series of discharges of high-tension current.
- Psychological influence on the aggressive object (in this case ESD “Konvoy” is operated without the leather case). The bright blue luminescence of electrical discharges between the control electrodes and the characteristic sound of the discharges effectively frighten the attacker by themselves, especially in twilight and in bad lighting (corridor, lift).
! Electro-shocking device of Russian industry can be bought and applied without a special permission:
“…Electro-shocking devices and spark discharges of the home industry… are not subject to registration, and Russian Federation citizens have the right to acquire them without a special license” – Federal law No150-FZ “On weapon”, article 13.
3. General classification of electro-shocking appliances
Electro-shocking devices are classified by GOST R 50940-96 “Electro-shocking devices. General specifications”, according to which all ESD are grouped by the parameter “the voltage of the spark discharge on the electrodes, kV” Group 1: U=70-90kV; Group 2: U=45-70kV; Group 3: U=20-45kV.
By the parameter “mediate power influence with load 1 kOm, W (Dg/s) ESD are subdivided to types: Type 1:P=2-3W; Type 2:P=1-2W; Type 3:P=0,3-1W. By the totality of these parameters ESD are divided into the following classes:
Class 1 (the highest) – U=70-90kV, P=2-3W (Group 1 and Type 1);
Class 2 – ESD not lower than Group 2 and Type 2;
Class 3 – ESD not lower than Group 3 and Type 3.
4. Working principle
ESD “Konvoy” – an electrical civil weapon of self-defense with a construction consisting of the following blocks: -an installed accumulator battery; -a powerful generator of high voltage electrical impulses of a special form; -two electrodes, between which generated high voltage appears. ESD “Konvoy” generates high-tension current impulses, which being applied to offenders or animals, block all the processes in the nervous system and cause muscles spasm. As the blocked nervous system is not able to send managing impulses to muscles, from the first moment of applying the ESD to the attacker, he cant resist. The protecting person can prolong the applying without obstacles: - 0,1 – 0,2 s causes general blocking of the nervous system of the initial stage, aim, muscles spasm; - 0,2 – 0,5 s causes stable blocking of the nervous system and orientation loss; - 0,5 – 3 s causes loss of conscience for the period of up to 15 minutes. Applying of “Konvoy” according to rules is not dangerous for the organism and its vitality, which is approved by the medical-biological expertise of RF Ministry of Health. In the “fighting” mode continuous working is tolerable during 3x10=30 sec. (after applying it to one offender it can be applied to another one etc. in course of 30 seconds). A great blocking and disorientating effect is achieved depending of the area of applying, duration and the attacker’s state. Shooting-through of the isolation and clothes – see point “Influence through clothes and leather articles”. It is important to choose the area of applying of the ESD correctly. It must be as close as possible to the central nervous system of the attacker – in the torso. The most vulnerable points are the neck, the groin, the plexus, the heart area and also the upper part of the chest and the upper part of the hip. It is important to know that the electro-shocking device influence grows if the attacker is stressed or excited as well as when he is drunken or under a narcotic intoxication. The camouflage case and small dimensions of ESD “Konvoy” permit its usage suddenly for the attacker, thus enlarging its effectiveness.
ESD “Konvoy” from the point of construction is produced in a dust-moisture-proof blow-durable case and has a safety device in its construction for eliminating accidental operation, control electrodes for working ability checking and cone working electrodes. The clamp is convenient for carrying in the inner pocket of a jacket. Carrying “Konvoy” ESD by this clamp on the belt is not advisable as it is intended only for supporting. Use the complete of cases for carrying the ESD on the belt.
6. Check and preparation for work
For working ability checking it is necessary: -move the safety device to the last left position (the indicator of taking off from the safety device will be lighted to the right from the safety device); -near the appliance by working electrodes to a separate metal item to the distance of 5 – 7 mm. (for example to scissors) and push the button (not more than 1 second). An electrical discharge will appear between the item and the working electrodes. If ESD “Konvoy” is in a leather case this checking way is analogous. -Move the safety device to the last right position. -If a discharge is weak the accumulator battery should be charged. If the appliance is without a case it is possible to check it non using a metal item but just between the control electrodes. High voltage discharge strives to go along the border of mediums division (peculiarity of the high voltage discharge) – in this case along the part of the appliance case which is right under control electrodes. If the case surface under electrodes is dirty or the accumulator battery is poorly charged spark discharge “falling” onto the case is possible. In case of such numerous “falls” it will burn a path there. If the case surface under electrodes goes dirty, clean it with a dry cloth, or treat with silicone polishing. A system of indication of the accumulator state is set in ESD “Konvoy”. The colour of the indicator is GREEN - the accumulator is charged, the appliance operation is allowed. The colour of the indicator is RED - it is necessary to charge the accumulator.

7. LiPOL accumulator battery
ESD “Konvoy” is completed with a LiPOL accumulator battery. There is LiPOL accumulator is installed in ESD “Konvoy”, meant to the whole life of the appliance.
If the appliance is not operated the battery discharges itself, which constitutes 10% of the battery volume a month. That is why it is advisable to recharge the battery once in four months.
Caution! The appliance storage with the safety device taken away (the indicator of readiness is lighted) is prohibited.
Caution! In working process (spark discharge generating) the appliance uses very large current, that is why it is necessary to keep strictly the method of working ability checking expounded in chapter “Check and preparation for work”. Otherwise the accumulator loses its ability of giving large current, processes of its chemical properties changing start.
Prolonged work of ESD “Konvoy” is admissible only in “battle” atmosphere.
For charging LiPOL batteries use only automatic charging device (ACD) PHANTOM-A1 model.
8. Automatic charging device (ACD) PHANTOM-A1
Technical characteristics
- Feed net : ~ 220 V ± 10%, 50 Hz;
- Charge current, max: 1000 mA;
- Period of a fully discharged battery charging: 40 minutes.
If the battery is partially discharged, the charging period can be shortened.
The charging device (CD) is switched off automatically after full charging of the ASD accumulator battery.
* red colour of the luminescence – the process of charging is going on;
* green colour of the luminescence – the process of charging is over.
a) Move the safety device to the last left position.
b) During applying to the object lean the working electrodes to the area of influence, push the button and simultaneously hold the working electrodes in close contact with the area of influence up to 3 sec. The working electrodes sliding along the object’s surface in undesirable.
The appliance has an anti-capturing zone, whichis constructively executed as the case’s widening (ESD high-voltage zone). If the offender tries to capture the appliance from the owner’s hands, he will get an identical strike as if he caught the electrodes.
10. Examples of applying
Example 1. Applying in a corridor or in a lift. Prior to entering a corridor, get ESD “Konvoy” and prepare for operation – take off from the safety device. In case of attacking in a corridor or in a lift, lean the ESD electrodes against the object and push the button. The electrical discharges immediately block the attacker’s actions.
Example 2. Applying in a car. Private taxi-drivers are often attacked. Choose a special place for storing the appliance in advance in order to get it quickly (between the seats of the driver and the front passenger, in the car-door pocket). Prior to taking up a passenger prepare ESD “Konvoy” for applying – take off from the safety device. In case of an attack lean the ESD electrodes against the object and push the button. An electrical discharge blocks the attacker immediately. You will have enough time to leave the car and call the police or take away the offenders from the saloon.
Example 3. Applying in the street. There is a possibility of an attack in a poorly lighted and solitary streets. If you happen to find yourself in such a place, prepare “Konvoy” in advance – take off from the safety device. In case of an attack lean the electrodes of the ESD against the object and push the button. The electrical discharge immediately blocks the attacker.
Example 4. Applying in case of a dog attack. The dog’s nervous system is more sensitive to electrical current influence than the man’s one, that is why “Konvoy” discharge influences dogs greatly. The area of effective influence on dogs is analogues to the man’s area. Dogs are very afraid of the sound and the view of electrical discharges, that is why very often it is enough just to switch on blank discharges of ESD “Konvoy” (between the control electrodes) in order to keep off an animal.
If you happen to run into an offender face to face, but the offender is in an inconvenient position for using the appliance, a distracting look aside (as if another person appeared behind the attacker), a sharp shot movement aside or a distracting movement by the free hand will let to win the situation: “open” the attacker, delude about your actions. This moment is the most convenient for using the appliance.
In order to use the appliance successfully, one must be sure of its 100% effectiveness. According to the parameters totality – high voltage, impulse form (strike by the front and impulse duration), impulses frequency generating, impulse energy as well as operation – ergonomic parameters, the appliance’s parameters are organized optimally: the appliance’s influence is effective (the attacker’s nervous system blocking and muscles spasm) and convenient for using.
11. Operation in the case
The electro-shocking device is completed with cases for belt and hand wearing. The case for belt wearing is also convenient for transportation and storage.
The manufacturer advises to operate the appliance in the leather case for hand wearing constantly:
-in the moment of a possible appliance operation, the owner, as a rule, is in a stressed state and it is very important to hold the appliance surely in the hand – the belt of the case and the leather texture are conducive to it;
-cuts in the leather case for the button and the safety device let fix the finger on the button and prevent an occasional putting it to the safety device in the process of operation;
-the surface under control electrodes will not get dirty in the process of operation;
-the appliance using in the leather case does not change the high-voltage discharge specifications.
! If the appliance is in the leather case, it is prohibited to check it in a way when a discharge goes inside the case between the control electrodes. High voltage discharge strives to go along the border of mediums division – in this case along the inner part of the case leather, which is situated immediately over the control electrodes. In spite of the fact that this part of the case is saturated with s special antistatic electro-isolating composition, on indulging this checking way the electrical discharge will burn a path there. The correct checking method – see part “Check and preparation for work”.
12. Operation in rainy weather
The greatest difficulty in operating electro-shocking appliances is their operation in rainy weather. In this case, if the attacker is in wet clothes or in a wet leather jacket, electric discharge “spilling” on the clothes surface is possible.
-in the moment of using one should near the working electrodes as close as possible to the area of defeating – “touch” the attacker’s body. A bit sharpened working electrodes will help to execute it. Try to spit the offender’s clothes by a sharp movement;
-the method of the appliance switching on is obligatory (pushing the button): lean the working electrodes against the object and after that push the button;
-keep the appliance in a dry place – in a pocket, under an umbrella, avoid its contacting with rain.
13. Operation in winter
The only problem of operation in winter cold weather is that the “frozen” accumulator is not capable of giving great current (see the dependence of the appliance power from the accumulator temperature), providing effective work of the appliance. That is why when the surrounding air temperature is below zero, keep ESD “Konvoy” in a warm place – in a pocket of outer clothing or in a hand.
14. Influence through clothes and leather articles
Electro-shocking device “Konvoy” has a very large duration of the electric impulse. Electrical impulses duration is the main factor letting punch clothes with dielectric properties without spitting them.
If the attacker wears leather clothes, ESD “Konvoy” impulses will punch them due to their energy and duration. Leather clothes has only a dense top layer but the rest thickness – porous.
It the attacker’s clothes – dielectric (for example, a thick polyethylene coat), it is necessary to spit them or cut with working electrodes. A discharge will go to the attacker’s torso through these points.
A discharge punches a clothes level with the thickness of up to 19 mm.: the punching distance between the control electrodes ends is 18-19 mm. That is why the sum of distances from one working electrode to the object and from the other working electrode to the object is exactly these 18-19 mm. It means that if the working electrodes are neared parallel with the object, the electric discharge will throw over to the object at the distance 10 mm. (a bit larger punching distance than the distance between the control electrodes ends – a peculiarity of the high-voltage discharge).
If the attacker wears thick clothes, for example a sheepskin coat, the punching distance and the length of the sticking out electrodes is enough with close leaning of electrodes to the object in order to make the impulse influence the object.
Usual porous clothes (wind-breakers, jackets, shirts) are punched by a discharge without obstacles.
On influencing the object, electrodes sliding on the object’s surface is undesirable, and in case of influencing through thick outer clothes or clothes with dielectric properties– inadmissible.
15. Precaution measures
-switching on with a discharged or poorly charged accumulator battery is prohibited;
-on clasping the case do not near hands to the high-voltage zone of the ESD and to electrodes;
-do not switch on without loading on working electrodes (a blank discharge onto a separate metal item or between the control electrodes) for the moment more than 1 sec.;
-do not use the ESD in water , bare-footed on the concrete floor, grass etc.;
-do not use the ESD against children; pregnant women; elderly persons; law-enforcement organs officials; in situations not connected with self-defense;
-store in places inaccessible for children;
-do not leave the safety device in the last left position (the appliance is taken off from the safety device and the indicator of readiness is lighted) for a long time (more than two twenty-four-hour periods);
-the appliance work can influence some electronic devices work (due to electro-magnetic influence), that is why it is not recommended to switch on the appliance in immediate proximity with PC, medical equipment etc.;
-do not switch on the appliance in places with explosive atmosphere, which are marked as a rule with special caution marks – gas stations etc.
16. Transportation and storage
Packed ESD can be transported by all means of transport, if they are defended from direct influence of atmospheric precipitatesand mechanical breaks in temperature –40 - +50C. In this case the ESD can be used only after keeping it packed in normal climatic conditions not less than 6 hours.
The ESD should be stored in the temperature range 10C – 35C with relative humidity not more than 80% and in absence of acidity, alkali and other aggressive admixtures in the air.
